The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) praised Egypt’s “Haya Karima” (Decent Life) initiative, describing it as the country’s largest development project in terms of funding and beneficiaries. The initiative covers around 58 percent of Egypt’s population.
“Haya Karima” aims to improve living conditions in rural areas and reduce development gaps between governorates and between rural and urban communities. It also seeks to support balanced regional development.
The OECD noted that the initiative includes environmental projects through the “Green Village” programme, which aims to turn selected villages into sustainable green communities.
The initiative has also received recognition from the UN. It was listed among the UN’s “Accelerators for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” in July 2020 and among its “Best Practices” in July 2021.
