Egyptian Minister of Industry and Trade Ahmed Samir asserted that the foodstuffs industries sector is one of the most important production and strategic sectors of the national economy.
The food exports reached $2.635 billion in the first seven months of this year, against $2.384 billion in the same period last year, he said.
The sector exports increased by 10.5 per cent year-on-year, added Samir while chairing a meeting of the foodstuffs industries companies on Monday.
The sector is mainly contributing to finding thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities and providing needs of the local market and exportation to regional and global markets, according to the minister.
Samir said the meeting aims to scale up investments and chances for expanding in the Egyptian market along with increasing exports and deepening the local industry.
The meeting also aims to find a dialogue platform for representatives of the food industries sector and the ministry to learn more about proposed solutions to overcome challenges of the sector due to the economic repercussions of consecutive world crises, he added.
