The Food Export Council said exports of the Egyptian food industry increased by 3 per cent in the first quarter of 2022, recording 1.412 billion dollars against 1.368 billion dollars in the corresponding period in 2021.
In a monthly report issued on Wednesday, the council pointed out that Arab countries topped the list of international groups importing food industry products from Egypt.
Exports to the Arab markets amounted to 748 million dollars in the first quarter of 2022, representing 53 percent of the total food exports, according to the report.
The European Union came second in the list with a value of 249 million dollars, representing 18 per cent of Egypt’s total food exports.
It was followed by non-Arab African countries with the value of food imported from Egypt amounting to 101 million dollars, representing 7 percent of the total.
The value of food exports to the US stood at 88 million dollars, representing 6 percent of Egypt’s total exports.
The rest of the international groups recorded 226 million dollar worth of food imports from Egypt during the same period, representing 16 per cent of the total Egyptian food exports during the aforementioned period.
