CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a telephone call with US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, as part of ongoing coordination and consultation between Egypt and the United States regarding regional issues of common interest.
The call addressed the latest round of negotiations between the United States and Iran held in Geneva concerning the Iranian nuclear file, where Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at settling outstanding issues and all related concerns through negotiations.
The Foreign Minister pointed to Egypt’s keenness to continue the negotiated path and avoid escalation in the region, emphasizing the importance of resolving outstanding disputes and reaching compromise solutions that achieve the interests of all parties.
The conversation also touched upon the developments in the Gaza Strip in light of the first meeting of the Peace Council held in Washington on February 19.
Abdelatty stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of the second phase requirements of the US President’s plan and to provide full support to the National Committee for the Management of the Gaza Strip.
He further emphasised the deployment of an international stability force to ensure commitment to the ceasefire as a necessary step to pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction efforts, while underlining the importance of the continuous flow of humanitarian and relief aid to all areas of the Strip.
For his part, Witkoff praised Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting regional security and stability, as well as its continuous efforts to contain crises and push toward political solutions that contribute to calming the situation and enhancing opportunities for stability in the region.
