Egyptian Ambassador in Brussels Badr Abdel Aati conferred on Tuesday with Chairman of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) General Robert Brieger on the big progress realized in Egypt-EU relations which he termed as “strategic and stable”.
In a statement released on its Facebook page, the Foreign Ministry said the meeting covered the great leap of EU-Egypt relations at the political, strategic, economic, financial, scientific and cultural fronts especially in light of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s latest visit to Brussels in February this year.
General Brieger expressed his appreciation for the vital role played Egypt to guarantee the Middle East security and stability, asserting that the EU is deeply interested in bolstering cooperation with the South Mediterranean partners topped by Egypt.
The Egyptian diplomat and the EU official exchanged views on the repercussions of Ukraine-Russia war on the global economy especially the world food crisis and means of countering it.
They also addressed a number of regional and international files of joint interest especially the terrorism combat.
Abdel Aati, on his part, reviewed Egypt’s efforts to curb the terrorist thoughts and extremism with a special focus on the economic and social dimensions in parallel with the security ones.
The meeting also took up means of combating illegal immigration especially the big progress achieved by Egypt in this regards in view of its position in the gate of the Horn of Africa and Sahel regions.
