The Egyptian national chess team departed Cairo International Airport on Tuesday for Beijing to participate in the SCO International Team Chess Tournament 2026.
The delegation is headed by Bassem Amin, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Egyptian Chess Federation.
George Samir, Vice President of the Egyptian Chess Federation, affirmed the Board of Directors’ full confidence in the national squad, emphasising that participation in such elite international competitions is a cornerstone of the federation’s strategy to advance the sport and cultivate player expertise.
“We are dedicated to providing the delegation with comprehensive technical and administrative support,” Samir stated.
He added “We maintain high expectations for our players to deliver a performance that reflects the rigorous preparations undertaken recently, particularly as Egypt possesses distinguished talent capable of competing at the highest international echelons.”
He further noted that the tournament provides a vital opportunity for Egyptian players to engage with diverse global chess disciplines, a move expected to yield a direct positive impact on performance and results.
The national team’s participation is conducted within the framework of bilateral co-operation between the Egyptian and Chinese Chess Federations, aimed at fostering international competitive exposure and the exchange of professional expertise.
