Egypt’s agricultural exports have surpassed 5.8 million tonnes so far this year, Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk announced on Saturday.
The milestone highlights a growing global demand for Egyptian produce and underscores the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the sector’s international competitiveness.
According to a report by the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine (CAPQ), citrus remains Egypt’s top agricultural export, with shipments exceeding 2.2 million tonnes. Fresh potatoes ranked second, bringing in more than 908,000 tonnes, while sweet potato exports reached about 218,000 tonnes.
Farouk said the ministry, through CAPQ, and in coordination with relevant authorities, is continuing efforts to open new international markets for Egyptian agricultural products, including markets with strict phytosanitary requirements.
He said the strategy aims to expand Egypt’s export footprint and improve access for a wider range of agricultural products worldwide.
