Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk, said on Friday that agricultural exports have exceeded 5 million tonnes so far this year, reflecting growing global demand for Egyptian produce and demonstrating the success of the state’s efforts to develop the agricultural sector and enhance its international competitiveness.
According to an official report issued by the Central Administration of Agricultural Quarantine, exports of key crops have shown a strong performance. Citrus fruits remained Egypt’s top agricultural export, with shipments exceeding 2 million tonnes, followed by fresh potatoes in second place with approximately 883,000 tons exported. Sweet potato exports reached 189,000 tonnes.
The report also noted that exports of fresh and dry beans surpassed 110,000 tonnes, followed by fresh onions at more than 85,000 tonnes. Grape exports totaled 58,000 tonnes, while fresh strawberry exports reached 40,000 tonnes. Significant quantities of fresh garlic, fresh tomatoes, guava, and pomegranates were also exported, ranking among the leading export crops.
In a related development, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the success of its efforts, through the Central Administration of Agricultural Quarantine and in coordination with relevant agencies and departments, in opening 21 new international markets for agricultural products during the first half of 2026.
This achievement marks another milestone in expanding Egypt’s export map, as Egyptian agricultural exports have recently gained access to promising global markets with stringent phytosanitary requirements.
The new market expansions include Uzbekistan and Vietnam in Asia, as well as several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, Panama, El Salvador, and the Dominican Republic.
The Minister of Agriculture stressed that this rapid expansion reflects growing international confidence in Egypt’s monitoring and traceability systems and confirms that Egyptian agricultural products meet the highest global standards of safety and quality. He added that the ministry will continue working with producers and exporters to preserve these gains and support the national economy.
