President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met today, Monday, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, where both officials underscored their absolute commitment to consolidating bilateral relations between Egypt and Iran.
The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, and the Head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service (GIS), Hassan Rashad.
Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el-Shennawy stated that during the discussions, Minister Araghchi conveyed greetings from Iranian President Masoud Bezhkian to President Sisi.
Talks between the two sides focused on recent regional developments. President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s firm stance against the expansion of conflict, emphasizing the urgent need to de-escalate tensions to prevent a slide towards a full-scale regional war. He noted that such a conflict would have severe consequences for the security and stability of all countries and peoples in the region.
In this context, President Sisi highlighted the ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States as a decisive step in addressing regional tensions. He also called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the swift delivery of humanitarian aid to Gazans. Furthermore, he underlined the importance of restoring normal maritime traffic in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea to ensure regional stability.
For his part, Minister Araghchi lauded Egypt’s role in restoring regional stability and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to continuing consultations with the Egyptian side in the coming period.
