BEIJING – Egyptian Ambassador in Beijing Assem Hanafi stressed on Sunday that voting in Egypt’s 2024 presidential elections is going smoothly on the third and last day of the balloting process.
The diplomat told MENA that Egyptians living in China continue converging on the embassy in Beijing and the consulate in Shanghai to cast their votes despite the cold weather in the country.
He added that diplomatic staffers either in Beijing or Shanghai were keen on ironing out all hurdles to enable the largest number of Egyptians cast their ballots.
Voting in 2024 Presidential Elections kicked off for Egyptians abroad on Friday.
The candidates running for the presidency include incumbent President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, who is running for a third term in office and whose electoral symbol is a star; Farid Zahran, the leftist opposition Social Democratic Party candidate with the sun as his electoral symbol; Abdel-Sanad Yamama, candidate of the Wafd party who has chosen the palm tree as his electoral symbol; and Hazem Omar, the Republican People’s Party candidate, with the ladder as his electoral symbol.
According to the National Elections Authority (NEA), 137 embassies and consulates across 121 countries will receive voters from 9am to 9pm as of today and for three days.
Meanwhile, voting within Egypt will take place from 10-12 December.
The final result will be announced on 18 December if no run-off is required.
