As per President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi’s directives, the Egyptian community, Al-Azhar mission and the Egyptian embassy staffers in Afghanistan returned safely to Cairo late on Monday.
Earlier, the Armed Forces dispatched a military plane to Afghanistan to evacuate the Egyptians from Kabul.
Sheikh Shawki Abu Zaid, head of Al-Azhar delegation, thanked President Sisi for the efforts to bring the Egyptians back home and for the well secured reception, as well as the medical preparations.
He also thanked the Egyptian intelligence for their efforts during the rapid deterioration of security in Afghanistan and its ability to keep the delegation safe in the now Taliban-controlled country.
He added that they were evacuated in such a professional and meticulous fashion.
One of the returnees told local media that they faced a lot of obstacles in Kabul airport, adding that the Armed Forces had been in constant contact with the Egyptian diplomats in Afghanistan to ensure their safe return.
