Student Muhannad Assem Abulghar, 12, came fourth in the world in the English Language Olympics out of 48,000 contestants from all over the world.
Muhannad is in sixth-grade student at Victoria College, Maadi.
A pianist and a keen tennis player, he is also the son of television anchor Assem Abul Ghar.
The competition was in three stages in Cairo and Venice, Italy where only seven contestants were left.
Competitors are tested on skills according to Cambridge University criteria for assessing native speakers of English.
Muhannad said he took seven months to prepare for the competition in exam methods. During this time, he was supported by his family, his teacher Amani Zaher, and the encouragement of director Heba Fouad.
He intends to go for future English language Olympics to represent Egypt.
