Cairo consults with Tehran, IAEA on Geneva talks
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, and Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud held a phone call during which they stressed the importance of de-escalating tensions and containing regional unrest.
They highlighted the role of dialogue and diplomatic channels amid the current regional environment.
The call comes as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two countries.
During the discussion, the ministers underscored the depth of ties between Egypt and Saudi Arabia in multiple sectors and reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing cooperation and building on the positive momentum in bilateral relations.
This commitment was reinforced by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Saudi Arabia on 23 February, during which he met with the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The ministers also reviewed preparations for the first meeting of the Supreme Coordination Council between the two countries and exchanged perspectives on recent regional developments.
The call addressed the latest developments in Sudan, the Gaza Strip, Libya, and the Horn of Africa, as well as ongoing efforts to maintain regional security and stability.

Backing diplomacy in Iran-US negotiations
Minister Abdel-Aati held talks with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to review the outcomes of the latest round of US-Iran negotiations in Geneva.
This is in line with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to reduce regional tensions.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Tamim Khallaf said that Abdel-Aati received detailed briefings from both sides on the Geneva talks.
He reaffirmed Cairo’s firm support for diplomatic efforts to resolve outstanding issues, stressing the importance of sustaining the negotiation process to prevent escalation in the region.
The minister stressed the necessity of addressing all pending disputes and outstanding issues in the US-Iran negotiations through compromise, underscoring the importance of avoiding military options and their potentially severe consequences.
Both Araqchi and Grossi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions and affirmed their commitment to continued coordination and consultation to reach a comprehensive settlement to the Iranian nuclear issue and promote security and stability in the region.
