CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty had talks on Wednesday with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and the ensuing escalating regional situation that threatens to ignite a regional war.
The meeting was held on the fringe of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Russia’s Kazan city to attend the BRICS summit.
The two ministers discussed means of enhancing bilateral relations at all levels, especially ongoing joint development projects.
Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s strenuous efforts to realize an immediate and permanent ceasefire, secure hostage release, ensure humanitarian aid access for the suffering population in Gaza, and halt further escalation.
He said Egypt seeks clinching a political ceasefire to ensure regional stability, particularly through establishing a Palestinian state as a final solution to the regional conflict.
The two sides tackled a number of issues of mutual concern as well as means of enhancing bilateral cooperation and furthering economic and trade relations within the framework of their BRICS membership.
