Rami Al-Nazer, CEO of the Egyptian Red Crescent, said they have so far sent 84 trucks laden with food, medicine and other humanitarian relief supplies to the Gaza Strip.
He made the remarks on Saturday during a joint press conference with Hossam Khalil Elsharkawi, Regional Director of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in the Middle East and North Africa.
He cautioned of the gravity of the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, calling for opening humanitarian pathways for several days not hours to allow large amounts of badly needed assistance into the enclave.
He said the society delivers the assistance materials to the Palestinian Red Crescent which work in collaboration with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
For his part, Elsharkawi called on the world community to play its role to help the Gaza Strip and send urgently needed aid, thanking the Egyptian government for its “pivotal role” in offering assistance to the Gaza Strip.
