Egyptian Minister of Environment Yassmine Fouad commended on Tuesday the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) for its coordination and data sharing role in co-operation with all state bodies and sectors to deal with weather and climate-related issues. Minister of Civil Aviation Mohamed Manar and EMA Chairman Hesham Tahoon attended the ceremony.
Fouad also praised the authority’s efforts to ensure early preparation and provide early warning about extreme weather events.
The minister was speaking at a ceremony held at the EMA premises under the theme: “Early Warning and Early Action,” in celebration of World Meteorological Day, marked on March 23.
She said the ceremony was intended to highlight the importance of climate and meteorological data for mitigating disaster risks.
Fouad also underlined the importance of the upcoming global climate summit (COP27) Egypt will host in November, given the great attention paid by the political leadership to climate change issues and how they affect all aspects of life.
This year, World Meteorological Day has the theme “Early Warning and Early Action” to spotlight the vital importance of Hydrometeorological and Climate Information for Disaster Risk Reduction.
