CAIRO – The Egyptian Cabinet’s media center has denied news that the Taraweeh (special prayers Muslims only perform during the month of Ramadan) will be allowed in all mosques without any regulatory measures.

The media center, in a statement Friday, said that it had contacted the Awqaf Ministry, which dismissed as baseless such reports.

The Taraweeh should not exceed 30 minutes and should be performed directly after the Isha prayers, the Ministry stressed.

The Friday weekly prayers should also continue in the same way as is now during the fasting month of Ramadan, the Ministry noted.

All precautionary measures and social distancing should be observed to control the spread of coronavirus, the Ministry made it clear.

The Cabinet’s media center urged all media outlets to verify any information so as not to circulate false news that might create confusion.
