Units of the Egyptian and French navies carried out two naval exercises on Thursday, within the zone of operations of Egypt’s Southern Fleet in the Red Sea.
The drills came within the framework of plans by the General Command of the Egyptian Armed Forces to exchange experiences with the armed forces of brotherly and friendly states, the command said in a statement.
It added that Egyptian frigate, SEGM Abu Qir and the French Mistral helicopter carrier participated in the training, along with the French frigate, Courbet.
These units of the two navies, it said, carried out several activities of a professional nature, including training in sea landing operations on an island.
The command added the joint drills also included training in coast reconnaissance operations and landing, using various media and training in the implementation of maritime interception procedures as well as the inspection and protection of ships while they carryout their missions.

The Egyptian minesweeper, Navarin, conducted training in search, detection and identification of seamines in co-operation with French minesweeper, Orion.
The two units were also trained in the destruction of sea mines, using the latest weapons and equipment, the command said, noting that multiple naval exercises by the Egyptian and French navies in the recent period had demonstrated major developments in the performance of the Egyptian navy.
The same drills, it added, also showed the huge technological boom the Egyptian navy has witnessed in recent years in
“This boom keeps pace with major international armed forces,” the command said in its statement.
