The Egyptian Food Bank (EFB) – the region’s first development-focused institution specialising in providing healthy food to those in need – has won Humanthropy SDG Impact Award at Dubai International Humanitarian Aid and Development Conference (DIHAD 2025).

The prestigious recognition honours the organisation’simpactful programs and initiatives aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in combating hunger and securing food for vulnerable communities.

With this accolade, the EFB becomes the only Egyptian development institution among the Humanathropy 2025 honourees, selected from 137 nominations representing 42 countries. The awards span multiple categories, including Leadership, Innovation, Sustainability, Peacebuilding, Corporate Social Responsibility, Emerging Humanitarian Leader, and Financial Innovation.

Through an integrated food security system, the EFB designs evidence-based developmental nutrition programmes for underserved populations. Furthermore, the Bank actively develops innovative and sustainable solutions to address food insecurity and promote social justice, making it a leading model for humanitarian and development work in the region.

during DIHAD, CEO of the EFB Mohsen Sarhan explored the deepening divides in the global landscape and their growing impact on international development, highlighting the major challenges facing efforts to eradicate hunger.

Acknowledging that ending hunger worldwide remains an ambitious goal, Sarhan emphasised the importance of easing the burden on those most affected.

DIHAD 2025 hosted over 18,000 participants from 160 countries, spotlighting the critical role of humanitarian work in advancing development across the Arab region and beyond.

Founded in 2006, the EFB has grown beyond its original mission to support Egypt’s most vulnerable communities. It has expanded its reach to several countries including Algeria, Lebanon, Sudan, and most recently Gaza. The Bank has also partnered with the UAE’s “100 Million Meals” campaign to distribute food to low-income families during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
