Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel-Aati praised the strong partnership between Egypt and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), underscoring the bank’s role in supporting the country’s development priorities and economic reform agenda.
This came during his meeting with EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso, on Thursday on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington.
Abdel-Aati welcomed the EBRD’s plans to expand its operations in Egypt and its interest in positioning Cairo as a regional hub, noting this would help attract further investment.
The minister highlighted the steady growth of the EBRD’s portfolio in Egypt as a sign of rising confidence in the economy.
He expressed hope for increased engagement in 2026, particularly in priority sectors such as energy and exports.
He also addressed the impact of regional challenges, emphasizing Egypt’s economic resilience, supported by structural and monetary reforms, alongside proactive efforts to secure additional resources to mitigate external shocks.
Abdel-Aati pointed to promising investment opportunities in renewable energy, ICT, artificial intelligence, and automotive manufacturing, especially electric vehicles.
For her part, Renaud-Basso reaffirmed the EBRD’s commitment to Egypt as a key partner, highlighting its contributions since 2012 in infrastructure, renewable energy, and private sector development.
