The Egyptian-Dutch water co-operation represents a co-operation model to exchange benefit and mutual respect, affirmed Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Abdel-Ati.
The minister’s remarks came while attending on Tuesday the signing of a co-operation programme between Egypt and the Netherlands in the water resources sphere.
The programme was signed by Deputy Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Ragab Abdel Azim and Dutch Ambassador to Egypt Han-Maurits Schaapveld.
The move came as part of efforts to further promote close ties binding Egypt and the Netherlands, especially in light of the challenges besetting the two countries in the water resources sphere, said the minister.
The two countries are also keen on enhancing joint co-operation in the water resources field, affirmed the minister.
The co-operation programme includes water and agriculture; creating integrated management for coastal areas; developing sewage treatment technologies; coastal management and capacity building, said the minister.
Egypt and the Netherlands have intensively co-operated on water projects for 46 years, and the Egyptian-Dutch Advisory Panel on Water Management plays a crucial role in this respect.
