Egypt’s Ambassador to Palestine, Ihab Suleiman, met with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.
Talks centered on Gaza, with Suleiman stressing the importance of sustaining the ceasefire, implementing the first phase of the U.S. plan and UN Security Council Resolution 2803, and supporting relief, recovery, and reconstruction efforts. He highlighted the need to empower the National Committee to manage Gaza temporarily, paving the way for the Palestinian Authority to assume full responsibilities in Gaza and the West Bank. He also underscored the importance of deploying an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire.
On the West Bank, Suleiman condemned Israel’s annexation measures, escalating settler violence, settlement expansion, and violations in East Jerusalem, particularly against Al-Aqsa Mosque. He criticized the financial blockade on the Palestinian Authority, warning that such actions perpetuate instability and undermine prospects for a two-state solution.
Prime Minister Mustafa expressed appreciation for Egypt’s steadfast support, praising Cairo’s role in consolidating the ceasefire, facilitating humanitarian aid, treating the wounded in Egypt, and easing the return of displaced residents. He conveyed gratitude to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for his historic stance against the displacement of Palestinians and reaffirmed the importance of Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting Palestinian rights to establish an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
