Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy, Bassam Rady, has inaugurated the summer cultural and artistic season of the Egyptian Academy of Arts in Rome during an event that was attended by Italian artists, journalists and a broad audience of cultural figures.
Rady, joined by academy director Rasha Saleh, lauded the academy’s role in promoting Egypt’s cultural presence in Italy and across Europe. He described it as a longstanding artistic beacon, reflecting Egypt’s rich identity from Rome, a global capital of art and culture.
He also appreciated the academy’s efforts under Saleh’s leadership and with the support of Culture Minister Gihane Zaki, announcing the launch of a new season of activities with the aim of showcasing Egypt’s soft power through diverse artistic programming.
The event featured an exhibition by Egyptian artist Mostafa Rabie, displaying works inspired by Egyptian folklore and society, alongside pieces influenced by Italian landmarks.
The programme also included participation from the director of an Italian institute specialising in Egyptian civilisation studies, marking the 40th anniversary of its founding. Italian academics presented recent findings on ancient Egyptian archaeology and offered insights into Egypt’s Roman-era history.
In her opening remarks, Saleh welcomed attendees and thanked the ambassador for his continued support in promoting the academy’s activities within Italy’s cultural scene. She also acknowledged Egyptian and Italian artists contributing to the academy’s role as a cultural bridge.
A documentary film was screened highlighting Egypt’s newly established museums, including the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which Rady described as a comprehensive global cultural institution showcasing Egypt’s heritage with modern exhibition techniques.
