Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy, Bassam Rady, welcomed the inaugural EgyptAir direct flight linking Cairo International Airport with Venice Marco Polo Airport, marking the launch of a new regular route between the two countries.
The ceremony, held at Venice Marco Polo Airport on Monday, was attended by senior airport officials, Venice’s mayor, representatives of SAVE Group, which operates several Italian airports, and EgyptAir’s Regional Director in Italy, Salah Tawfik.
Speaking during the event, Ambassador Rady said the new route crowns two years of planning and coordination, noting that flights have already been fully booked for the coming weeks.
He added that this new route reflects the growing strength of Egyptian-Italian relations and serves as a bridge between two of the world’s oldest civilisations.
Rady noted that the service is expected to support trade and investment by improving access to northern Italy’s Lombardy region, the country’s industrial and manufacturing hub, home to major companies in sectors including transport, automotive, aviation, and defense.
The route will also benefit the large Egyptian community living in northern Italy while complementing EgyptAir’s existing services to Rome and Milan.
For his part, EgyptAir Regional Director Salah Tawfik said the inaugural flight was operated by a modern Airbus A320neo aircraft. The airline currently operates two weekly flights on the route and plans to increase the frequency to three flights starting in October.
The Cairo-Venice service is part of EgyptAir’s strategy to expand its international network, strengthen tourism and business links, and enhance the competitiveness of Egypt’s national carrier.
