Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati and Yemeni Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Shaea Mohsen Al-Zindani, co-chaired the 9th round of the Egypt–Yemen Strategic Dialogue, held in Cairo on Sunday.
The talks reflected the well-established historical ties between the two nations and their shared commitment to coordinating positions on regional crises.
Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Yemen’s unity, territorial integrity, and legitimate government institutions, stressing Cairo’s backing for a comprehensive political settlement under UN auspices, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf said.
He also welcomed the recent UN-brokered prisoner exchange agreement, supported by Jordan, and expressed readiness to provide political and diplomatic support to advance peace efforts.
The discussions also addressed regional developments, particularly US–Iran negotiations, with Abdel-Aati voicing hope that diplomacy would lead to a comprehensive agreement that ends the war and secures lasting peace, while preventing further escalation.
Meanwhile, the two ministers reviewed security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as Abdel-Aati rejected any attempts to internationalise or militarise the area.
Governance and security of this strategic waterway are the sole responsibility of Arab and African littoral states, he stressed.
The two sides agreed on adopting a comprehensive approach that includes economic and developmental dimensions.
Abdel-Aati highlighted Egypt’s recent launch of the “StREAM” initiative to strengthen governance and security in the Red Sea.
