Communications and Information Technology Minister Raafat Hindi met with Pascal Donohoe, Managing Director and Chief Knowledge Officer of the World Bank Group, to explore ways of strengthening cooperation in digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
Hindi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to building on its longstanding partnership with the World Bank to accelerate digital transformation, develop infrastructure, expand digital skills, and foster innovation. He highlighted the ministry’s vision of creating an integrated digital economy that attracts investment and leverages advanced technologies, including AI, to serve national priorities.
Donohoe praised Egypt for laying strong foundations for digital transformation, noting that knowledge is as critical as financing in the digital economy. He reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting Egypt in adapting global expertise to national priorities, building a more competitive digital economy, and creating new opportunities for growth and employment.
The meeting reviewed Egypt’s progress in expanding high-speed internet, improving communications services in Hayah Karima villages, and advancing AI applications through the updated national AI strategy. Discussions also covered data governance, digital sovereignty, private sector partnerships, and investment in data centers.
The World Bank delegation’s program included a visit to Valeo’s AI development center in Smart Village, reflecting the focus on practical cooperation and innovation.
