‘Egypt working hard to improve healthcare for all’

Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar was in Prague on Wednesday for the three-day Czech-Africa forum.

Abdel Ghaffar, who is acting Minister of Health and Population, spoke of the importance of a robust healthcare infrastructure of health for any nation.

The minister went on to say that Egypt is working hard to improve health services in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The Egyptian government attaches due importance to the comprehensive health insurance system covering all social segments, the minister added, pointing out the hard work on the part of the state to complete the implementation of the health insurance project, which was launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in 2018.

The project is being executed in three phases and work is underway on the first phase in six governorates.

Abdel Ghaffar also highlighted the importance of boosting health systems in African countries by developing comprehensive strategies to ensure medical supplies and equipment, in addition to constructing health facilities that meet international high-quality standards.

The transfer of international experiences and research between African countries in health sector is of vital importance, Abdel Ghafar said.

Meanwhile, Minister Abdel Ghaffar met with his Portuguese counterpart Marta Temido to discuss ways of boosting coordination and promoting partnership to deal with infectious diseases.

The two officials also looked into the exchange of experience in epidemiology and combating malaria.

The two sides also discussed co-operation in environmental detection technologies, assessment of hazards and early warning systems to deal with pandemics.
