Egypt is working hard to achieve the goals of COP27 climate summit, slated for November in Sharm el-Sheikh, a climate change action official said in press statements.
UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt, Mahmoud Mohieldin, went on to say Egypt is a political heavy weight on African, Mediterranean and Arab levels, and has strong links with all countries.
Egypt is determined to build on the outcomes of previous COPs to switch from pledges to implementation and to find actual solutions to climate change hazards besetting the human life, Mohieldin said.
COP27 has garnered the attention of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and all related ministries and state institutions, which stress that the main goal of hosting the conference is to take all pledges of the previous COPs to the level of implementation, Mohieldin added.
As the host of COP27,Egypt confirms the importance of dealing with climate and environment issues with a realistic approach towards the achievement of strategic development goals (SDGs), he said.
Mohieldin said that Egypt is working on three important axes towards COP27.
The first is the initiative of the five major regional round tables in which Egypt aims to bring together the most applicable projects in all continents and highlight them during COP27.
The second axis is the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, whereby Egypt will link local development action to related global efforts.
The third is to find the best finance tools and investment opportunities in climate projects by drawing up general plans according to the public budgets of countries with the involvement of the private sector, civil society and different financing entities concerned with financing and implementing.
In this context, Mohieldin mentioned the importance of highlighting the efforts of local bodies in each governorate in climate and development action by submitting practicable, smart and sustainable projects to fulfill Egypt 2030 Vision.
