Egypt welcomed the UN Security Council resolution supporting a deal on reaching a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, exchanging prisoners and detainees, the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the safe return of displaced Palestinian citizens to their homes in the various areas of the Strip.
The resolution also called for ensuring full access to humanitarian aid that meets the needs of the population of the Strip.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Monday, Egypt renewed its calls for Israel to comply with its obligations in accordance with the provisions of international law and to stop the war on the Gaza Strip, and the killing of Palestinian civilians and destruction of the entire infrastructure in the Strip.
Egypt also called on both Israel and Hamas to take serious steps towards completing this deal as soon as possible and to start implementing its terms without delays or conditions, according to the statement.
Given the UNSC’s commitment to the principle of the two-state solution and in accordance with the decisions of international legitimacy stated in the resolution, Egypt reaffirmed the necessity of taking serious action by international parties to find the political horizon for implementing the two-state solution, which would guarantee a radical solution to the crisis and support the pillars of stability and coexistence in the region.
It also stressed the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state, within the 1967 borders, with Al Quds (occupied East Jerusalem) as its capital, side by side with Israel.
