Egypt welcomed the recent announcement by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer regarding the United Kingdom’s intention to recognise the State of Palestine. In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt hailed the move as a historic and constructive step that aligns with international efforts to uphold the rights of the Palestinian people.

Describing the announcement as part of a broader global momentum, the ministry affirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the recognition of a sovereign Palestinian state along the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

It stressed that such recognition is essential to advancing a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace in the Middle East, which ensures the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to self-determination, as enshrined in the international law and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Egypt further urged countries that have not yet recognised the State of Palestine to follow the lead of the United Kingdom and France. It emphasised that such action would reinforce the prospects of a viable two-state solution and help pave the way for a credible political process aimed at restoring peace, security, and stability across the region.
