Egypt appreciates and welcomes any effort aimed at alleviating the sufferings of Palestinians in Gaza, Foreign Minister Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Saturday.
Abu Zeid made the remarks in response to inquiries by some reporters and diplomats regarding Cairo’s stance on the arrival of the first vessel delivering aid to the battered Gaza Strip through a new maritime corridor.
Thanking all regional and international parties that helped facilitate the vessel’s arrival, Abu Zeid said Egypt is still making every effort possible to facilitate delivery of urgent assistance to the war-ravaged enclave through Rafah Border Crossing and airdrop operations.
He urged Israel to remove all obstacles to delivering aid to the besieged enclave.
A humanitarian aid ship arrived on Friday in Gaza for the first time since the start of Israel’s barbaric aggression on Gaza, a first step in a fledgling maritime operation to bring more aid to hungry Palestinians as aid groups say that Israel is restricting more efficient deliveries by road.
