Egyptian Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Saeed on Wednesday met with Mari Pangestu, World Bank Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships to discuss the agenda for the COP27 climate conference to be held in Sharm el-Sheikh in November.
Marina Weiss, Regional Director of the WB office in Egypt, Yemen, and Djibouti, attended the meeting.
The minister and the WB delegation reviewed means to update Egypt Vision 2030 to keep pace with global developments such as the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic, environmental challenges, water scarcity and climate change.
Also reviewed were national projects under the umbrella of the presidential initiative ‘Decent Life’ and the development of the Egyptian family.
The Sovereign Fund of Egypt, which was set up in 2018, is one of the means to strengthen partnership with the private sector, which represents the investment arm of the government, the minister said.
El-Saeed noted that Rowad 2030 was launched by her ministry 2017 to nurture creativity and scientific knowhow and build an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem enabling young people to establish their businesses.
For her part, Mari Pangestu praised Egyptian efforts for the transition to a green economy.
The WB is ready to support the Egyptian government in preparing for COP27 conference and offer Pangestu said.
Meanwhile, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad received the WB Managing Director of Development Policy and Partnerships for discussions on joint co-operation projects and development report prepared by the WB.
