Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Migration Badr Abdelatti received a phone call on Friday from Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs. The discussion was held as part of the ongoing coordination and consultation between Egypt and the United States regarding regional and international developments.
During the call, which addressed regional issues amid the current military escalation, Abdelatti emphasized the necessity of concerted regional and international efforts to de-escalate the situation and prevent the conflict from expanding.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the severe economic consequences of the continued hostilities on both the Egyptian and global economies. He noted the adverse effects on international navigation, supply chains, and the rising costs of oil, food, and fertilizers.
Regarding the crisis in Sudan, Abdelatti affirmed Egypt’s rejection of any attempts to undermine the nation’s unity or territorial integrity. He stressed the urgency of reaching a humanitarian truce, preserving Sudanese sovereignty, and supporting national institutions. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of intensifying international efforts to support the humanitarian response and facilitate aid delivery across the country, while emphasizing that national state institutions should not be equated with armed militias.
Turning to Libya, Abdelatti reiterated Egypt’s firm stance on preserving the state’s unity and stability through the unification of its institutions. He stressed the importance of a comprehensive, Libyan-led solution that fulfills the people’s aspirations and maintains sovereignty. He also called for continued efforts to advance the political track toward holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
On the situation in Lebanon, Abdelatti affirmed Egypt’s rejection of any infringement on Lebanese sovereignty, unity, or territorial integrity. He stressed the need for the full and non-selective implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and an end to blatant Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty. He further expressed Egypt’s support for the Lebanese state’s efforts to restrict weapons and impose its authority over all national territory.
For his part, Massad Boulos valued Egypt’s pivotal role in supporting regional security and stability, praising its continuous efforts to contain crises and promote political solutions. He emphasized the importance of maintaining close coordination and consultation between the two countries in the coming period.
