The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, held a telephone call on Saturday with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa to continue ongoing consultations between the two nations.
During the call, the two officials reaffirmed the deep-rooted, fraternal, and historic ties between Egypt and Palestine. They underscored their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral co-operation, specifically focusing on bolstering the Palestinian government’s capacity to carry out its official responsibilities.
Reviewing the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, Abdel-Aati stressed the critical importance of fulfilling the commitments outlined in the first phase of the US President’s peace plan. He emphasised that this is vital to ensuring the full and unfettered delivery of humanitarian aid, which will create the necessary conditions to advance to subsequent phases of the agreement.
Furthermore, the Egyptian Foreign Minister reiterated the importance of enabling the Palestinian Authority (PA) to fully assume its governance responsibilities across both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Abdel-Aati strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing violations in the West Bank, including repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. He voiced Egypt’s categorical rejection of Israel’s annexation and settlement policies, describing them as flagrant violations of international law that actively undermine the prospects for a two-state solution.
The conversation also addressed upcoming preparations for the international donors’ conference, scheduled to take place in Brussels later this month.
Minister Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian government. He stressed the urgent need to mobilise international financial assistance to enable the PA to deliver essential services, strengthen the resilience of the Palestinian people, and promote long-term stability across the Palestinian territories.
