DAKAR – Egyptian Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union Mohamed Omar Gad said Egypt urged the African states to hold a consultative session on the issues related to climate and energy.

The move comes within the framework of the efforts to coordinate the African stances before holding the climate summit, due in Sharm el Sheikh in November.

Gad’s remarks came via video conference during a working session organized by Morocco on the sidelines of conference of African ministers of finance, planning and economic development due in Dakar at the ministerial level.

Gad said the coordination meeting comes as part of African meetings which started on the sidelines of the latest African summit that took place in February in Addis Ababa to crystallize a unified African stance in relation to the climate issues to refer it to COP 27.

Egypt is seeking to increase its dependence on renewable energy from 18% to 45% by 2025, Gad said.

Gad urged the African states to focus on achieving just transition to renewable energy and providing sustainable energy to the green energy projects in Africa in addition to following up the implementation of commitments which Africa received in previous climate summits.
