Egypt’s Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem affirmed that the Country Partnership Programme for Egypt (PCP), implemented in co-operation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), plays a pivotal role in supporting the state’s efforts to achieve a genuine industrial leap through projects that promote innovation, develop human capital, and strengthen public-private partnerships.
Hashem made the remarks on Wednesday while chairing a meeting of the Steering Committee of PCP, in the presence of Patrick Jean Gilabert, Regional Representative of UNIDO in Egypt.
The meeting reviewed the programme’s implementation progress highlighting key achievements across targeted industrial sectors during the recent period. Discussions also focused on the programme’s six main pillars, including industrial policy and governance, investment promotion, green industry, smart cities and sustainable industrial zones, value chain development, and adaptation to the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Hashem stressed the importance of projects implemented under the PCP framework, noting that they align with the Ministry of Industry’s strategy for advancing Egypt’s industrial sector. He also underscored UNIDO’s technical support in providing data and information that assist policymakers in evaluating outcomes and ensuring the achievement of targeted objectives.
The discussions also reviewed a number of ongoing UNIDO projects in Egypt focusing on green industrial transformation, energy efficiency, and clean energy transition.
For his part, Patrick Gilabert praised the continued co-operation between UNIDO and the Egyptian government, highlighting the organisation’s alignment with national efforts to enhance local industrial capabilities.
He noted that UNIDO’s current portfolio in Egypt is the organisation’s largest worldwide, encompassing 23 projects designed to provide technical support to local industrial enterprises in areas including energy efficiency, green projects, and sustainable development initiatives.
