CAIRO – Egyptian Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled el-Anani hailed the fruitful co-operation between Egypt and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Egypt is one of the founding countries of this organization, plus the second UNESCO office around the world is located in Cairo and it is a regional office for the Middle East, added the minister during his meeting Thursday with Director of UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Science in the Arab States Abdulaziz Almuzaini, who assumed this post recently.
During the meeting, the latest developments in the projects implemented in cooperation with UNESCO in the field of antiquities and heritage preservation were discussed and reviewed.
The Egyptian minister congratulated Almuzaini on assuming his new post, wishing him success during his tenure and a pleasant stay in Egypt.
Talking about the official visits paid by the UNESCO’s officials to Egypt over the past period, Anani said that UNESCO’s Director General Audrey Azoulay visited Egypt in 2021 to attend the opening of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization and the spectacular procession organized for the transfer of royal mummies.
The UNESCO official, for his part, hailed the historic ties binding Egypt and the international organization, saying that Egypt’s bureau is considered a pivotal one and a regional hub for the Arab region, Africa and the world.
UNESCO is keen on maintaining cooperation with the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry to implement several projects and initiatives that serve both sides, he affirmed.
