Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has underlined its commitment to advancing energy cooperation, digital transformation, and data system development in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The move comes as Cairo seeks to reinforce sustainable development pathways while navigating global economic and geopolitical uncertainties.
During talks in Cairo, Minister of Planning Ahmed Rostom met with UNDP Resident Representative Chitose Noguchi to explore joint mechanisms in energy, digital innovation, and data quality improvement. The discussions highlighted Egypt’s efforts through the Central Crisis Management Committee, chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, to maintain flexibility in growth targets despite global volatility.
The minister stressed that the government is addressing current challenges decisively, leveraging past reforms to sustain economic momentum. He emphasized expanding private sector participation—particularly in infrastructure financing and entrepreneurship—and underscored the critical role of robust data systems and governance in effective planning.
Noguchi praised Egypt’s strong commitment to reform and its ability to balance immediate priorities with long‑term development goals. She affirmed UNDP’s role as an integrated partner supporting national planning processes and economic and social development programs.
