Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi congratulated over the phone on Sunday Iraq’s new Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on winning the confidence of his country’s parliament on the road to forming a new government in Iraq.
The president and the new Iraqi premier also exchanged views on a number of Arab and regional issues of common interest, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
He added that the president and premier al-Sudani also discussed joint efforts to further promote co-operation in various fields, at the bilateral level, including by boosting the efforts of the Joint Higher Committee, and through the Tripartite Co-operation Mechanism which also includes Jordan.
The Egyptian leader stressed Egypt’s unwavering support to Iraq’s security and stability.
He also underlined keenness on promoting frameworks of bilateral ties to broader prospects, Ambassador Radi said.
Premier al-Sudani, for his part, expressed gratefulness for President Sisi.
He commended what he described as ‘solid’, ‘deeply-rooted’ and ‘strategic’ relations between Egypt and Iraq, the spokesman said.
He added that Prime Minister al-Sudani also reiterated his eagerness to promote bilateral co-operation in all fields.
He appreciated Egypt’s support to Iraq at all levels, as well as its crucial role in bolstering the mechanisms of joint Arab action in the face of regional challenges and crises.
