Egypt’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and the Permanent Representative to the African Union Mohamed Gad has underscored the necessity to coordinate efforts to defuse disputes in Africa, particularly in neighbouring countries to boost regional peace and security.
The diplomat’s remarks came during his speech at the meeting of the African Union’s (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) in its new formation and with the membership of Egypt Thursday.
Gad reviewed Egypt’s vision on enhancing peace and security in Africa, stressing that high security challenges in the continent require further efforts by the African Union Commission to maintain regional peace and security.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the ambassador highlighted the need to address security and development challenges in Africa, particularly combating terrorism and the spread of armed disputes in several African countries.
