Egypt and the United Kingdom signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in the field of food security.
The MoU comes within the context of the close relationship between Egypt and the UK, and the efforts of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation to enhance strategic partnership with international partners.
Planning Minister Rania el Mashat said that this MoU reflects the historical ties between the two countries at all levels, including cooperation within the framework of the National Platform of Green Projects .
She underscored that food security is a critical priority for nations globally amid climate change, developmental challenges, and geopolitical tensions.
Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation expressed eagerness on a strategic partnership with the UK in sustainable food security, stressing the importance of focusing on technical expertise exchange and enhancing local wheat production.
Farouk highlighted collaboration areas, including soil fertility improvement, agricultural productivity, and rational fertilizer use by junior farmers.
Last year, the UK hosted the Global Food Security Summit, representing a substantial advancement in global food security efforts and innovation.
Egyptian-British relations are diverse, featuring significant British investment in Egypt. In 2020, both countries issued a joint statement to enhance economic cooperation during the UK-Africa Investment Summit.
