Egypt’s Ambassador to Kuwait Osama Shaltout stressed the pressing need to attain quick transition to renewable energy sources.
Climate change adaptation is not only the responsibility of the governments, but also the NGOs and the private sector play a crucial role in this respect, added the ambassador while addressing a speech during the inauguration of an event at the British Embassy in Kuwait.
The gathering, held under the title, Eco-Art, sees the participation of a host of ambassadors and members of the diplomatic corps.
Shaltout, meanwhile, underlined the importance of environmental diplomacy and international co-operation in a bid to confront the knock-on effects of climate change.
Talking about the event, which also sees the participation of children from various nationalities, the ambassador said that this event shows that art and environment are closely related.
The idea of holding this event was inspired by the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) and as part of ongoing efforts to host the COP27, slated for November in Sharm el-Sheikh, he further said.
For her part, the British Ambassador to Kuwait Belinda Lewis said that today’s event, which is held in partnership with the Egyptian and Italian embassies in Kuwait, aims to increase awareness on climate change and shed light on the need to confront it.
She, meanwhile, that it is necessary to have an integrated approach to address climate change.
The British ambassador also wished Egypt’s success in the COP27 conference, hoping that Egypt will benefit from the outcomes of the COP26 climate conference
Italian Ambassador to Kuwait Carlo Baldocci, for his part, said that confronting climate change requires taking swift measures.
Failure is not an option, he said, noting that there is an urgent need for global participation in this respect.
