Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel Aaty spoke over the phone on with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, as part of regular consultations aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional issues.
Minister Abdel Aaty expressed Egypt’s keenness on expanding economic, trade, and investment cooperation, stressing the importance of increasing British direct investment and boosting trade volumes between the two countries.
The two ministers also discussed regional developments following the recent memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran. Minister Abdel Aatyunderscored the need to rebuild trust among regional actors, address Gulf security concerns, and establish clear parameters to reinforce stability.
On Sudan, Abdel Aaty briefed Cooper on Egypt’s efforts to support peace and stability, safeguard Sudan’s unity and sovereignty, and preserve its national institutions. He emphasised the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce as a step towards reaching a lasting ceasefire and advancing an inclusive, Sudanese-led political process. Both sides agreed on the urgency of intensifying international efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis facing the Sudanese people.
