The Egyptian Air Force has launched an operation to drop tones of food aid and relief supplies on some areas north of Gaza Strip, the Armed Forces spokesman said in a statement he posted on his official Facebook page on Monday.
The operation came in pursuance of directives from President Abdel-Fattah El Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to deliver airborne humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in Gaza, the spokesman said, adding that the operation was launched in co-operation with United Arab Emirates Air Force.
The air dropping of aid aims to alleviate the acute humanitarian crisis in Gaza Strip and the deteriorating living conditions in the north of the Strip, the spokesman said.
It also comes in continuation of active Egyptian efforts to establish calm and co-operate with sisterly and friendly countries as well as with international organisations to ensure the sustainability of humanitarian aid and its delivery to the inside of the Gaza Strip, the Armed Forces spokesman said.
