Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the third round of Egyptian-Turkish consultations on Africa and the sixth round on Libya. The talks focused on the Horn of Africa, the Sahel region, and Libya.
Both sides reviewed developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea. They stressed the importance of Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity, and highlighted joint efforts to support Somalia’s security, fight terrorism, and strengthen state authority. The consultations also explored cooperation in building Somali capacities and promoting development.
The two delegations underlined the need to safeguard navigation in the Red Sea, a vital global trade route, and agreed that regional conflicts should not spill into its waters. On the Sahel, they pledged support for the confederation states in confronting terrorist groups and restoring stability.
On Libya, the talks covered political and security developments. Egypt and Türkiye exchanged views on supporting the political process, preserving Libya’s unity and sovereignty, and backing UN-led efforts. They emphasized encouraging dialogue among Libyan parties and preparing conditions for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people.
