On the sidelines of the Baku Energy Week in Azerbaijan, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi held talks with Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, in the presence of Egypt’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Hossam El-Din Reda and senior officials from both sides. The meeting built on discussions previously held in Istanbul last April.
Talks focused on strengthening the partnership between Egypt and Turkey in oil, natural gas, and mining. Both ministers emphasized the importance of elevating bilateral cooperation to a new level by engaging government institutions, specialized companies, and the private sector in both countries.
Discussions also highlighted opportunities for expanding Turkish investments in Egypt’s mining sector, particularly following OZ Mining’s interest in exploring gold in the Eastern Desert. The two sides explored avenues for technical expertise exchange, adoption of modern technologies, and best practices to boost development, attract investment, and maximize the value of natural resources.
The ministers further stressed the importance of enhancing regional energy cooperation in the Eastern Mediterranean, leveraging the strategic assets, infrastructure, and geographic advantages of both Egypt and Turkey to strengthen energy security and regional integration.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Badawi invited his Turkish counterpart and Turkish mining companies to participate in the expanded edition of the Egypt Mining Forum, scheduled for September in the New Administrative Capital, to showcase Egypt’s promising investment opportunities in the mining sector.
