Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdel-Aati, and his Tunisian counterpart  Mohamed Ali Nafti chaired a new round of political consultations between the two countries in Cairo on Thursday.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf, Abdel -Aati praised the regular meetings between Egypt and Tunisia, stressing the strong historical and popular ties between the two countries.

He also highlighted growing political coordination on regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Abdel-Aati referred to his visit to Tunisia in January and welcomed the outcomes of the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee held in Cairo in September 2025.

He stressed the importance of expanding cooperation, particularly in the economic, trade and investment sectors.

The talks also covered regional developments, including ongoing negotiations between the US and Iran.

Both sides stressed the importance of diplomacy and dialogue to resolve disputes.

Abdel-Aati said continued negotiations were necessary to reach a balanced agreement that addresses the security concerns of countries in the region.

On Libya, the two ministers stressed the need to support regional stability and preserve Libya’s unity and sovereignty.

Abdel-Aati reiterated Egypt’s support for a Libyan-led political solution and for holding presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.

He also renewed Egypt’s call for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya.

The discussions also addressed the Palestinian issue and developments in Sudan.
