Some three million pounds will be released in one-pound coins that bear the slogan of persons with disabilities, said Egypt’s  Finance Minister Mohamed Ma’eit Sunday.

The move is meant to show appreciation for the differently-abled Egyptians who not only reflect a “solid will” in the face of difficulties, but also achieve record highs in the different fields and, thus, effectively contributing to the development of the new republic, the minister said.

He added that the move is also in line with state efforts to further integrate persons with disabilities into society, believing they are true and influential partners in all aspects of life.

Head of the Public Treasury and Coinage Authority (PTA) Hossam Khedr, meanwhile, said coins are used to show national appreciation for influential figures and segments, including persons with disabilities, at the political, cultural and social levels.

It is one way of enhancing national awareness of the important role those figures and segments play in society, Khedr noted.
