Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdelaziz Konsowa held a key meeting to establish mechanisms for integrating university hospitals into Egypt’s Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS) across its successive phases nationwide.

The move positions university hospitals as a central partner in building a comprehensive and equitable healthcare system that guarantees quality services for all citizens, according to a press statement released by the Ministry of Health and Population today.

Abdel Ghaffar described the coordination between the two ministries as a strategic step to enhance the system’s efficiency and sustainability.

He said institutional integration would ensure optimal use of resources and deliver fair, comprehensive care, strengthening public trust in the national healthcare system.

The health minister emphasised that both ministries possess advanced infrastructure and highly qualified medical and academic staff.

He affirmed the Ministry of Health’s readiness to provide full support and exchange expertise to ensure sustainable expansion of the UHIS.

The meeting reviewed the outcomes of the system’s first phase in Luxor, Aswan, Ismailia, Suez, Port Said, and South Sinai.

Discussions also covered operational capacities, financing mechanisms, and administrative integration to unify quality standards and ensure nationwide readiness.

Konsowa affirmed that university hospitals constitute an important pillar of the UHIS and stressed continued cooperation to enhance service delivery, training, and clinical practices in line with international standards.
