Egypt has signed contracts to receive 100 million doses of anti-Covid vaccines, Health Minister Hala Zayed announced Sunday.
Egypt will soon be getting 8.6 million doses of AstraZeneca as part of a 40-million-dose offered by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) to be delivered throughout the current year, Zayed said in a press conference.
She told reporters that a shipment of Sinopharm vaccine will arrive in Egypt within hours.
Egypt is the first African country to receive the vaccines approved by the Egyptian Drug Authority, and the first to start vaccinating medical staff, the minister noted.
Online registration for shots will start next week, Zayed said, adding that priority will be given to the elderly and people with chronic diseases.
Vaccination spots have been set in all 27 Egyptian governorates, she assured.
